In 2019 the Board of Directors of Family Promise of Greater Indianapolis established an endowment with seed money of $25,000, provided largely by a generous long-time volunteer who wishes to remain anonymous. The endowment exists to eventually earn enough interest to significantly alleviate the annual operation costs of the direct shelter and follow-up services that Family Promise provides families in need. Homelessness may always be a part of this community, but that does not mean it can't be rare, short-lived, and recoverable.
Making a legacy gift, or a planned gift, to the Family Promise endowment is a way to have a lasting impact on the community through Family Promise's mission. Though communities change, Family Promise's values do not. Your gift would always be used to help families secure and retain housing with an interfaith approach that prioritizes keeping a family together, hospitality, changing lives for the long-term, good stewardship, and also raising awareness of systemic causes of homelessness.
Legacy gifts can take many forms, including the following:
-
Bequests,
-
Charitable Gift Annuity,
-
Charitable Lead Trust,
-
Charitable Remainder Trust,
-
Current Outright Gifts: stock, real estate, and tangible personal property,
-
Irrevocable Deferred Gifts,
-
Life Insurance,
-
Memorial Gifts,
-
Pooled Income Fund,
-
Retirement Plans and IRAs,
-
Revocable Deferred Benefits.
The Family Promise endowment is operated by the Central Indiana Community Foundation (CICF). CICF is the steward of more than $800 million in charitable assets in our community. They operate the endowments for more than 150 charitable organizations, and have a long history of doing so.
For more information on making a legacy gift to Family Promise of Greater Indianapolis, you can contact Whitney Johnson, executive director, at 317-261-1562 or whitney@fpgi.org to set up a meeting. A representative from CICF may be invited to be present to answer technical questions. No ask will be made at the meeting, only information shared. A legacy gift of any amount is a decision to be discerned, though the organization is grateful you are considering it to be the vehicle for your support to families in need today, tomorrow, and always.
