Why do big family shelter buildings exist, serving tens or even hundreds of people in one location? Why don't we just rent and furnish short-term apartments around town for families without housing till they get their own lease somewhere?

The quick answer is probably cost. Large family shelters in Indy housing a dozen or more families in one building has got to be more economical. It serves the most families per dollar invested, right?

It's been a long week for us, and I imagine for so many of you too.We rarely email for financial support outside of our special events and EOY appeal, and hesitate to now. But we placed every family in a hotel recently on faith, and now we have to pay for it.Our huge thanks to the dozen or so friends who already donated a total of $4,200 before we even asked for a cent! Welcome Lena Hill as the new case manager for AfterCare

JUNE 2019: Lena Hill begins Monday, June 10 as the new case manager for the AfterCare program. Lena previously worked for five years at the Center for Leadership Development in Indianapolis, and was in the banking sector before that. Her Bachelor's degree is in human services management, and she is pursuing a Master's degree concentrating in nonprofit management. We are thrilled to welcome her to the Family Promise team. 25 years of serving families at the Family Promise Reunion

Family Promise of Greater Indianapolis celebrated 25 years of serving families at the Family Promise Reunion on Sunday, May 19, 2019, presented by Strada Education Network

384523 Family Promise Reunion 1 030519 MAY 2019: Family Promise hosted its first ever Family Promise Reunion presented by Strada Education Network on Sunday, May 19 at Carmel United Methodist--the congregation that hosted the very first families in 1994! Despite rain and predicted thunderstorms, more than 185 people turned up for the cookout and pitch-in, included 75 people from former families in the IHN shelter program. Kids had fun in the three bounce houses that could fit insideThe event recognized Barb Williams who was retiring as the AfterCare case manager. It honored Dale and Terri Hughes from Carmel UMC who were retiring after 10 years as volunteer coordinators for the congregation. Darnae' Scales, a previous director of Family Promise, gave remarks on the history of the organization. Three partners--the staff team at Mustard Seed of Central Indiana, Erin Brown from School on Wheels, and JoAnn Morris from HealthNet--were given the 25th annviersary "partner awards" for their service to families. Last, five families who continued with the AfterCare program for a full two years were recognized with certificates and awarded a month of rent as a surprise gift to honor their hard work.
